ABA Director’s Report

Gilbert Miller Takes First Place at Lake Belton

Division 52 in Central Texas, December 5, 2009

Freezing was the word to describe Division 52’s first tournament of the year. With temps hovering around 22 degrees, Gilbert Miller, from Killeen, Texas is one step closer to the ABA National Championship with a 1st Place finish. He won $593 for his 1st place finish, an additional $500 from Texas Boat World (Triton Owner) and $100 from Line-X of Harker Heights for having a Keel-X Keel Protector. That’s over $1193 dollars in the American Fishing Tour Bass Tournament held on Lake Belton this past weekend. Gilbert’s five bass weighed in at 12.28 pounds and were caught using jigs, on steep banks and rocky points.  With 11.44 pounds, second place and $362 went to Paul Stokes. Paul also qualified for the Texas Boat World and Line-X contingency money and took home a total of $712. Last year’s District 52 AOY, James Banks came in third place with 10.24 pounds and won $129. James also qualified for the Texas Boat World and Line-X contingency money and took home a total of $329. John Weatherly placed forth with 9.42lbs and also took home big bass honors and $239. John’s Large Mouth big bass weighed in a healthy 5.85 pounds. These anglers are acquiring valuable points to insure their birth in the division’s two-day championship and the American Fishing Tour National Championship that will be held this fall.

The Top six anglers were:

1. Gilbert Miller                  12.28 lbs

2. Paul Stokes                    11.44 lbs

3. James Banks                  10.24 lbs

4 John Weatherly               9.42 lbs

5. Rex Wheeler                   7.75 lbs

IT PAYS TO FISH OUT OF A TRITON PURCHASED FROM TEXAS BOAT WORLD

(Texas Boat World boat owners took home over $1100 in contingency money)

This division’s next tournament will be held January 24th, 2010 on Lake Belton at the Temple Lake Park ramp.   For additional information on this or any future event in this division, contact Cliff Brown at (254) 699-9151 or by email at: cbrown@texasboatworld.com.

The American Fishing Tour offers low cost, close to home bass tournaments that are designed for the weekend angler. All ABA anglers fish for money and points. The points advance the angler to a district championship and the top anglers from the district advance to a national tournament held in the fall.
